PURPLE (2019) First released on Vogue.com and later presented in Reflections of Love at the Harbourfront Centre, Toronto, PURPLE situates tenderness and reverence as acts of resistance, weaving intimacy into a broader lineage of Black expression and care. In this work, Quil Lemons pays homage to the Black women who shaped his upbringing and artistic vision. Conceived as an ode to their strength, beauty, and resilience, PURPLE transforms personal memory into collective tribute. The women of Lemons’ lineage appear adorned in designs by Batsheva Hay, embodying a dialogue between heritage, fashion, and love.
